The 2nd Annual Ellen Art Show

Howdy Folks!

And a warm welcome to a happy and bright 2012!
I've just realised it has been a long time since I last updated you on all that has been happening. Well, winter happened and we battened down the hatches. There is more but I shall leave that to another post, for there are things afoot for Catbird Craft this year but for now I will have to keep schtum about all that as the bird and cat have sworn me to secrecy...

So, what is this about an art show, and which Ellen am I talking about? A good friend of ours, and fearless leader of the queer etsy team, Michelley is taking part in the 2nd Annual Ellen Art Show with over 60 artists from LA, New York and Miami, all showing their portraits of Ellen DeGeneres in LA on the 28th January at the illustrious Terrell Moore Gallery.

This remarkable feat is the vision of Renda Writer a performance poet who, since 2007 has had a dream to perform his poem "Half Hearted" on Ellen's show. Last year he organised the 1st Ellen Art Show in Miami and this year, to celebrate Ellen's 54th birthday he wanted to have that number of artists to show in LA, the response was huge and soon eclipsed his original number, not being one to say no to artists wanting to participate, he said the more the merrier! Not only that, they will be raising money for the Trevor Project by raffling off the fantastic portraits, as well as celebrating Ellen's 54th birthday with performances from a wide range of entertainment. I only wish we could be there too!

My weekend

Howdy folks!

Frank here! It maybe a rainy Monday today, but this weekend has been somewhat momentous, at least it has for me. Why so? Well, the cat and the bird decided to relieve me from my studio duties so that I might have a trial weekend living with them in their abode. You know, a little like how a foster child is introduced to a new home. Belle and Claude came too, and such we fun we've had. On Saturday I sat next to the pool, (which if I'm honest could do with a bit of clean), sipping champagne out of a plastic flute, whilst getting some sun on my bones. It was rather perfect to be able to sit there and just let it all hang out.

Naturism in Nunhead

I don't believe I've ever heard Belle Bird caw and chirp quite as much as she did this weekend. The breeze through her feathers seemed to be a wondrous thing for her confidence. Alas, with her dodgy wings, she couldn't quite reach the dizzy heights of the chimney stacks on the roof above, but she was content with perching on the chiminea. She seemed truly delighted to be out in the sun, especially as, for once, she wasn't the target of Claude Cat's 'affection'.

As is usual with Claude, it's difficult to tell if he's had a good weekend. One thing I do know is that he spent quality time chasing psychedelic toads in the garden's undergrowth. He was also rather miffed when Glinda, the good witch of the south, appeared in her bubble to thwart his attempts at catching the exotic prey he'd been stalking most of the afternoon.

We're definitely not in Kansas now

If Saturday wasn't exciting enough, on Sunday the cat and the bird took me out in the car. It's amazing how many people suddenly have the nerve to speak or gesture when they see me sitting in the back seat. One motorcyclist insisted that the cat and the bird need to feed me more often. If that particular chap is reading this...I'm well fed, I just have an unusual metabolism.
Anyway, we went to East London, which is one of my favourite old haunts. As I have a life long interest in art, I really wanted to show the cat and the bird some of my favourite street art in that area...

Claude would have no chance...

Now, as we three recover from the excitement of the weekend,  the preparations for the studio's arrival continue. I will, of course, keep you all updated with news from the dirt patch. In the meantime, have yourselves a great week.

My regards to you all,
Frank

One of life's great lessons

And I should know!

Howdy folks!

Today I have been giving Claude and Belle a lecture on the effects of life. This particular lecture is always best conducted in the nude - the consequences are clear for all to see.

Must dash off to bed now,

My regards to you all,

Frank

Catbird Craft update

Howdy folks!

Frank L. Fettle here. Before the cat and the bird start to wonder to why it is they've employed me; I thought it was about time I actually did some work.  So now I shall do some roving reporting from the studios of Catbird Craft.
It's a busy time right now - the cat has been studying the finer points of biodegradable cello bags.  Her head is swimming with information on rates of decomposition - I know a thing or two about that. Aside from that, the cat has been busy preparing new designs for the upcoming sabbat greeting cards range. I had peek when she wasn't looking, and I think they look fantastic. She's also been painting on canvas, and hopefully some of those paintings will find themselves in the Catbird Craft shop soon.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the studio, the bird has been busy with latex moulds and stone plaster. So far we have dragons, toads, and candlesticks. Claude has been growling at the sleeping dragons. Thankfully they've ignored him. The new Catbird Craft website is very almost finished now. I know this because the number of expletives muttered per hour has dropped significantly. The near completion of the website means that the bird now has a little more time to prepare for the great skull painting session. I hope she gets on with it soon because it's beginning to look like a natural history museum in here, and Belle is starting to get nervous.

Okay folks, I really must go and stuff a marrow,

My regards to you all,

Frank
